Merrill Martin Specializing in Divorce Mediation

Divorce Mediation
As a divorce mediator, I am a neutral third party who helps guide you and your spouse through the issues you need to resolve, so that you can end your marriage amicably and cost effectively. I listen, then help the spouses collaborate a workable solution in order to avoid litigation. I am trained in two proven divorce mediation methods, Collaborative Divorce and Mediation.
Collaborative Divorce is an alternative dispute resolution process that is faster, less confrontational, and more affordable than the traditional litigation model. As a member of the Collaborative team, my role is to serve as a financial neutral along with each spouse’s collaborative attorney. I provide understanding to the value of marital assets and assist with preparing budgets, which help individuals manage their living expenses post-divorce. The ultimate goal of the Collaborative team is to work in the best interest of the family and to facilitate a process whereby the parties negotiate voluntarily without having to resort to a divorce attorney. Since the process does not take place in court, the Collaborative process remains confidential within the Collaborative team.
The straight mediation approach involves just the mediator who facilitates communication with the parties so they can craft their own solutions rather than being stuck with decisions dictated by family court. Mediators do not give advice to either party, but rather help communicate your individual goals and work together toward a fair and equitable agreement. Attorneys are typically consulted once an agreement has been reached and just before finalization.
Working together we will determine:
